Presentation about culture and history

The project will consist of planning and making a 12 minute presentation about culture and history or podcast on 3 different texts from Culture and people of Americas that are most interesting to you to talk about an aspect of a topic that you develop. please include powerpoint and script.

All of the aforementioned options should be no more than 15 minutes long (12 minutes minimum) and include visual (pictures or videos) components that illustrate your topic (minimum of 3).

I will upload most of texts below, please choose three of texts or videos to write about.

Some possible (broad) topics to explore in your project include;

a) the genre of testimonio, or eye-witness accounts (Columbus, Las Casas, Manzano, Barnet/Montejo, Arenas, Menchú).

b) religion (Columbus, Las Casas, El Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, La última cena)

c) gender (Columbus, Mary Louise Pratt, Anzaldúa, Ferré)

d) sexuality (Barnet/Montejo, Arenas, Juan de los Muertos, Anzaldúa)

e) language (Columbus, El Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, Nuyorican poetry, Menchú)

f) blackness (Las Casas, Haitian Revolution, texts from Black Fugitivity/Cimarronaje, Dominicanidades)

g) indigeneity (Columbus, Las Casas, El Inca, Anzaldúa, Menchú)

h) Latin America & the U.S. (Martí, Cuban Revolution, Central America)

i) migration/immigration (Harvest of Empire, Anzaldúa, all texts about Central America)

j) art (Mendieta, Basquiat, and others)

The more specific your topic, the better. In other words, instead of examining “Mexican Americans,” perhaps consider discussing specific features from or affecting that community, such as issues of language, belonging, identity, race, gender, music, etc.

Focus on a specific topic, explain why you’re interested in it, what you would like to highlight about it, and draw from our course (and possibly outside materials) to do so.
