Leaders are individuals that have people follow them while managers have people work for them and leadership in nursing is no exemption. Managers are in a position to provide specific rewards and punishment while managers cannot as they are required to rely on someone else to accomplish their mandate.

Working as an effective leader is more important as it can found sustainable organizational success. Ideally, leaders focus on listening, building relationships, motivating, and persuading their followers; hence, they can help accomplish outstanding achievements (Chapter 2). Effective leaders encourage others and help them overcome obstacles in pursuit of a vision, thus nurtures others to succeed.
